The Honest Truth
Jim
Co-Founder
I’m not going to lie; the beauty of Wings is their complete modularity, with all parts designed to be user-changeable. While you can handle this yourself (we’re even working on a dedicated parts page), some people prefer having an expert inspect their gear and keep a service record for peace of mind.
- The Reg Doctor is an expert: With years of hands-on experience in the field, Jim isn’t just a technician; he’s a specialist in scuba gear. He literally sits at night studying exploded diagrams of Halcyon gear parts…
- Personal Service: As you’d expect from The Honest Diver, Jim offers personalised service plans. If you’ve got a specific requirement for your gear, just let him know! Nowts a bother.
- Transparent Communication: We believe in clear, honest communication throughout the servicing process. Jim will keep you informed about the condition of your equipment, any necessary repairs, and the best practices for maintenance going forward.
- Commitment to Quality: Jim only uses official parts from Halcyon servicing kits, the highest quality tools and materials and the latest servicing techniques to maintain your equipment.
- Safety as a Priority: Your safety under the water is our utmost concern. Jim meticulously inspects, services and tests your Halcyon wing so he sends it back to you working perfectly.
- Fast, Efficient Service: We know that time is of the essence, especially when your next dive is on the horizon. Jim tries to turn gear around as fast as he possibly can.
- Passionate Support: Diving is not just a sport; it’s a passion. Jim shares this passion and is dedicated to supporting the diving community by offering expert advice, sharing knowledge, and helping divers maintain their equipment for years of underwater exploration. You can see him answer all sorts of scuba equipment-related questions on The Honest Diver Podcast.
Jim aims to get your Halycon wing serviced as quickly as possible. It usually takes a maximum of 7 days (excluding shipping time if your wing is to be couriered in/delivered back).
He will of course keep you updated if this changes.
We’ve tried to make it easy peasy for you to get your Halcyon wing to us for servicing.
If you’re happy with the backplate and harness, you can remove those and just send the wing itself to make shipping easier.
You can either:
- Drop it off at Honest HQ in person
- Ship it to us – you package it up and arrange your own postage
- We can organise a UPS label so you can box up your wing, whack the label on and drop it off at a collection point
You can either:
- Pick it up in person at Honest HQ
- We can organise delivery to an address of your choice
Once Jim receives your Halcyon wing for servicing, he’ll give it a once over to inspect it for any major issues that stand out before he gets to work, checking the overall condition of wing and bladder.
He’ll then completely strip your Halcyon wing inflator head down to its bare bones, disassembling every single component. He’s got so many tools in his little man cave workshop that there’s a servicing tool for every nut, bolt, and connection that exists on your Halcyon wing. The bladder will get a good clean out with a mild disinfectant solution to stop anything growing inside.
Certain parts are completely replaced during your Halcyon wing service. Jim only uses official Halcyon parts for these.
The rest are given a warm, soapy bath to remove all the general dirt that’s accumulated since your last overhaul.
The metal parts get placed in an ultrasonic bath with a specialist cleaning solution designed to remove all corrosion and has been proven to protect and polish the shiny chrome.
Everything then gets rinsed, dried and carefully inspected for wear, tear or damage. If there are any issues identified at this stage (or at any stage of your Halcyon wing service), Jim will give you a call as this could mean an extra bit of cash is needed to replace the part in question.
Everything is reassembled along with any new parts including a new Halcyon inflator head.
Once everything is finished the wing is checked over again with a timed inflation test and overnight pressure test.
Last but not least, your Halcyon wing is dried and ready for you to pick up and Jim will email you your service record.
