What happens during an Aqualung BCD service?

Once Jim receives your Aqualung BCD for servicing, he’ll give it a once over to inspect it for any major issues that stand out before he gets to work, checking the overall condition of the harness and all the clips and buckles.

He’ll then completely strip your Aqualung BCD inflator head down to its bare bones, disassembling every single component. He’s got so many tools in his little man cave workshop that there’s a servicing tool for every nut, bolt, and connection that exists on your Aqualung BCD. The bladder will also get a good clean out with a mild disinfectant solution to stop anything growing inside.

Certain parts are completely replaced during your Aqualung BCD service. Jim only uses official servicing kits for these.

The rest are given a warm, soapy bath to remove all the general dirt that’s accumulated since your last overhaul.

The metal parts get placed in an ultrasonic bath with a specialist cleaning solution designed to remove all corrosion and has been proven to protect and polish the shiny chrome.

Everything then gets rinsed, dried and carefully inspected for wear, tear or damage. If there are any issues identified at this stage (or at any stage of your Aqualung BCD service), Jim will give you a call as this could mean an extra bit of cash is needed to replace the part in question.

Everything is reassembled along with those new parts from the Aqualung BCD servicing kits using oxygen-compatible grease.

Once everything is finished the BCD is checked over again with a timed inflation test and overnight pressure test.

Last but not least, your BCD is dried and ready for you to pick up and Jim will email you your service record.
